Vaccination certificates will not be required to visit nightclubs and large events in England, according to British Health Secretary Sajid Javid. Plans to introduce such a requirement, which were expected to come into effect at the end of the month, have been met with criticism from both the entertainment industry and some politicians.
The idea was that people would have to show proof of having received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to attend events with large crowds. But according to Sajid Javid, the government has examined the evidence and concluded that the measure should not be introduced.
”"We shouldn't do things just for the sake of it or because others are doing it and we need to examine every possible intervention carefully," he tells the BBC.
The decision is described by the BBC as a U-turn by the government. As recently as last week, Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi said that a vaccination pass was the best way to keep nightlife going.TT
