Plenty of Easter snow in the mountains

Remove

Nearly 200,000 skiers are expected at Swedish ski resorts this Easter. The long weekend is unusually late, but the snow conditions are good.

From Branäs in Värmland in the south and throughout the mountain range up to Riksgränsen in the north, there will be enough snow for the slopes to last when the Easter weekend begins next week, according to Titti Rodling, CEO of the Swedish Ski Resorts Organization (Slao).

There will also be enough snow at facilities along the Norrland coast and inland.

In Riksgränsen, there is almost four meters of snow in the terrain, according to Slao. Last weekend, several decimeters of fresh snow fell in Vemdalen. From Sälen, Titti Rodling has heard that there is as much snow now as last season at this time – and it was a record season for Slao with around two million skiers.

– Last season was a fantastic winter with lots of snow and the number of skiers increased. We think we will end up at about the same level this year, so it looks good, she tells TT.

Of Slao's 205 facilities, just over 60 are open at Easter. Some close on Easter Monday, others are open into May.

In Riksgränsen and Björkliden, it is fully booked for one of the most popular ski weekends of the year. But in other places it is still possible to find accommodation at Easter without breaking the bank, Titti Rodling believes.
