It may now be easier to find time to renew your passport. The opening hours at the country's passport offices will be extended from Easter Monday, the police have announced.
The long wait times for applying for passports and national ID cards have drawn attention and frustration in recent weeks, even leading to people spending the night outside the police station at Arlanda in the hope of getting a temporary passport.
Now the police have announced via their website that the opening hours of the country's passport offices will be extended after the Easter weekend. This will in turn lead to almost doubling the number of times available to apply for a passport.
– We are working extensively to improve the situation. From Monday and then gradually, we will expand opening hours and the possibility of booking appointments even outside office hours, says Per Engström, national command manager for the national special incident Pass, in an article on the police website.
To avoid mass bookings of appointments that are then resold, those booking appointments need to fill in their personal identification number. The next step may be to introduce Bank-ID when booking, according to the police. Recruitment of just over 400 passport officers is also underway.
