The Portuguese government has declared that the country is in an ”energy crisis”.

A strike by the country's tanker drivers for better conditions on Monday has hit hard, and as airports began to dwindle on emergency fuel reserves, the government issued a decree ordering drivers to hit the roads again.

The major airports in Faro and Lisbon have had to improvise to get fuel for the planes.

“At both airports, where fuel supplies are not guaranteed, we have reached critical levels of fuel reserves for refueling aircraft,” says Economy Minister Pedro Siza Vieira.

The declared state of emergency means, among other things, that special fuel transports can be carried out and that blue light vehicles and certain other government transports have priority at gas stations.
