Total travel to and from Gotland increased in 2025. A total of 1,758,481 passengers traveled with Destination Gotland during the year, which corresponds to an increase of 1.6 percent compared to 2024.
During the year, 1,335,045 visitors traveled to and from the island, an increase of 0.8 percent compared to 2024. The development is particularly visible on the Nynäshamn line, while travel on the Oskarshamn line remained at a steady level.
Travel from abroad also continued to increase during the year. The number of foreign travelers increased by 4.6 percent compared to 2024, and the share of foreign travelers amounted to 6.3 percent – the highest level recorded.
At the same time, travel by Gotland residents also increased. In 2025, 423,436 Gotland residents traveled to and from the island, which is an increase of 4.4 percent compared to the previous year. This means that travel by Gotland residents is now back to pre-pandemic levels.
– The people of Gotland account for an important part of the increase, and their travel is now back to the same levels as before the pandemic. We are very pleased that the total travel to and from Gotland over the entire year has increased. The fact that more visitors are traveling outside of the high season shows that our investment in broadening the season is starting to have an effect – something that benefits both the people of Gotland and the industry on Gotland, says Adam Jacobsson, Sales and Marketing Manager at Destination Gotland.
Overall, the figures for 2025 show a positive development for travel to and from Gotland, with a summer outcome in line with last year and a continued increase in the number of visitors to the island. Freight volumes also increased compared to 2024, reflecting continued good demand for the island in the current economic climate.
The punctuality of ferry traffic amounted to 97.1 percent in 2025, based on 2,786 completed trips.
The development is also visible in the statistics on guest nights. During the period January–November 2025, the number of registered guest nights on Gotland amounted to 988,708, compared to 934,177 during the same period in 2024. In total, including non-registered overnight stays, the number of guest nights amounted to 1,367,645, which is a clear increase compared to last year.
– When more people choose Gotland for larger parts of the year, better conditions are created for long-term development, both for companies in the tourism industry and for Gotland as a place to live and work, says Erik Öhrn.
The positive development is also linked to Gotland's accessibility during autumn and winter. With regular air traffic to both Bromma and Arlanda, as well as well-functioning ferry connections, the island remains easy to reach even outside the summer season.
