The historic The Plaza Hotel in New York has had Donald Trump as its owner, among others, but now it is time for a change of ownership again.

According to sources, the Emirate of Qatar is said to be buying the luxury hotel for $600 million, equivalent to SEK 5.4 billion, from the current owner, an Indian business group.

The hotel, which opened in 1907, is considered one of New York's most classic buildings and has been designated a National Historic Landmark. Donald Trump bought "The Plaza" in 1988 but was forced to sell it, before that it was the site of Trump's wedding to former wife Marla Maples in 1993.

Past guests include names such as The Beatles and Marlene Dietrich, who performed at the hotel.
