SAS has qualified for fourth place when flight compensation company Airhelp ranks the world's best airlines. Norwegian competitor Norwegian is at the bottom of the same list, just ahead of low-cost airline Ryanair.

The list is topped by Qatar Airways, which receives an average rating of just over 8.2 on a ten-point scale. Number two on the list is American Airlines with 8.1 and in third place is Aeromexico with 7.1. In fourth place is SAS with an average rating of nearly 8.1, according to a press release.

Airhelp ranks airlines based on three criteria: punctuality, service and claims handling for delayed and cancelled flights. In the claims handling category, SAS is number one in the world.

However, the ranking is based on data from the full year 2018. The SAS pilots' seven-day strike with thousands of canceled flights at the turn of April/May has therefore not made any impression on the list.

SAS competitor Norwegian is ranked 67th out of a total of 72 airlines with an average rating of just under 6.7. It is mainly Norwegian's handling of compensation claims for delayed and cancelled flights that brings down the rating, according to Airhelp. In this category, Norwegian receives a rating of 2.3. 

Just after Norwegian is the low-cost airline Ryanair with an average rating of just under 6.6.

When it comes to punctuality, SAS is in 29th place and Norwegian is in 41st place. The most punctual airline is Garuda Indonesia, which receives a rating of 9.1 in this category.
