Despite the rapid spread of the new corona variant omicron, many ski resorts in the mountains, such as Åre and Vemdalen, are at record bookings. But today the government announced new tough restrictions, which means that further measures await the mountain destinations. Anna Hansson, CEO of Destination Vemdalen.

At Tuesday's press conference, the government announced a series of new, tough restrictions to slow the spread of the infection. For pubs and restaurants, only seated parties are allowed and a one-meter distance is required between parties.

– In practice, this means that there will be no nightclub parties on Christmas Day or New Year's Eve, said Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S).

This means that additional measures need to be taken at many ski resorts, such as ski resorts like Vemdalen, where they had prepared to be able to have nightclub celebrations with standing parties at the après-ski events, something that is now not possible. Instead, there will be seated events.

At the same time, many ski resorts are more or less fully booked over Christmas and New Year. Something that will pose a challenge in many places in the mountains. In the Vemdal area, for example, it is completely booked over New Year. There are approximately 25,000 beds there.
