Residents of Arizona in the United States are used to the heat, living in a state characterized by a desert climate. But cities like Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff have now seen a new record broken – one hundred days in a row where the thermometer showed at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit. That's almost 38 degrees Celsius.
The previous record was 76 consecutive days, in 1993, with those degrees.
Forecasts for the near future indicate that there will be significantly more days than a hundred days in a row this year.
Sean Benedict, chief meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Phoenix, says the summer appears to have been the warmest, or hottest, since temperatures began to be measured.
– Records have been set in several places around Arizona, Benedict tells the newspaper.
