Coop members are taking the train more than ever. In 2024, Coop members' number of trips with SJ increased by almost 22 percent compared to the previous year.

In 2024, Coop's members traveled nearly eight million kilometers by train, which is equivalent to almost 2,000 trips around the world.

– It is clear that traveling with SJ continues to be one of our most popular member offers in our valued membership program. An incredibly positive piece of news to present and at the same time clearly showing how important climate-smart traveling is for our members, says Anton Nyman, Head of Member and Partner at Coop Sverige.

The trend points towards more trips in 2025, partly thanks to more connected members, and partly because holidays and weekend trips within Sweden are becoming increasingly appreciated and prioritized among ordinary people, so-called ”svemester”. The number of trips from 2023 to 2024 with SJ will increase by a full 22 percent among Coop members. The total CO2 emissions will amount to approximately 21.5 tons of CO2. The same number and distances for the trips by bus would have resulted in approximately 1,195 tons of CO2 and by car (two people in the car) 6,772 tons of CO2 for travel in 2024*.

– It's great that our collaboration is having an effect and encouraging Coop's members to choose the train in the first place, says Pernilla Hultsten, Sales Manager for Collaborations at SJ AB.

Coop members receive a 10% discount on SJ travel booked at least ten days before departure. The discount also applies to routes outside Sweden, for example to Berlin and Hamburg.

Coop's membership program has seen several new features in the past year that benefit its members. Among them is the opportunity to collect bonus points on their insurance policies via Folksam and an expansion of the hotel offering, which also includes Coop Denmark, which means a broader selection and the opportunity to negotiate even lower prices for Coop members together with Coop Denmark and Coop Norway.

According to the press release.
