In 2024, 6,100 Americans applied for British citizenship.

That's more than twice as many applications as in 2004, which is as far back as public records show, according to The Independent newspaper.

The last three months of 2024 were also a record for any quarter in the last 20 years, with 1,708 applications.

Several experts interviewed by The Independent believe that the record figures for the last quarter are due, among other things, to Trump's election victory.
