The Spanish weather agency Aemet issues a red warning for hurricane winds of over 130 km/h on the Canary island of El Hierro on Monday.
Aemet sounds the alarm with a sharp message on Facebook:
”"Warning! Extreme danger," they write about the situation on El Hierro.
Storm Dorothea is currently ravaging the archipelago, and several of the islands are affected by warnings. Yellow warnings for strong winds have been issued on Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Gomera. There is considered to be a "high risk" there.
Aemet also warns that significant amounts of airborne dust will blow in from the Sahara across all of the Canary Islands in the coming days, which will worsen air quality.
