Domestic flights decreased by 20 percent in June compared to the same month last year. The explanation is a greater focus on international flights with a reduced domestic offer as a result, according to state airport operator Swedavia.
The statistics concern the number of travelers to and from Swedavia's ten airports, the major ones in Sweden.
Airlines have invested in increasing traffic abroad via the largest airports, Arlanda and Landvetter. This primarily affects residents in northern Sweden and smaller towns, who have fewer opportunities to travel further within the country and abroad, according to Swedavia.
At Arlanda, the number of domestic travelers decreased by 24 percent in June compared to the same period in 2023. For Landvetter, that figure is written as minus 33 percent.
In Visby, where Almedalen Week was organized in June, the number of foreign travelers increased by 240 percent compared to last year.
The total number of passengers at airports in June, however, is essentially unchanged compared to last year.
