The government wants to be able to limit the number of passengers on trains and long-distance buses. There are concerns about increased spread of infection during the sports holidays.

”"Many people feel hope now with the vaccine, but the situation is very uncertain, new mutations are spreading and the spread of infection is at too high a level. There is a risk of a third wave and the situation could quickly deteriorate," says Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) at a press conference with Minister of Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth (S) about restrictions on long-distance traffic.

”"We are introducing requirements for infection control measures for long-distance travel by bus and train," says Tomas Eneroth.

There are restrictions for journeys longer than 150 kilometers. There, transport companies should not be able to sell more than half of the seats.

However, tickets already booked may be exempted.

The rules will apply, according to the proposal, until May.

The government will now send out the proposal for restrictions for a quick round of consultation.

”"We will listen to the consultation bodies," says Tomas Eneroth, but adds that it is necessary to take action.
