The aviation tax has hit municipally owned regional airports in Norrland hard, reports P4 Norrbotten.

The Swedish Transport Administration has decided that eleven municipal airports that were financially affected by the controversial tax in 2018 and 2019 will be compensated. However, there is no earmarked money for continued support for next year.

The situation is becoming unsustainable according to Robert Lindberg, manager at Skellefteå Airport.

”"I think it's strange that an individual municipality like Lycksele, Vilhelmina or Skellefteå should bear the costs of this infrastructure. It's like we should bear the costs of the rails or E4 in the municipality as well, which is not done," Lindberg tells P4.
