The FAA says that some of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft that were involved in the crash may have faulty wing flaps that need to be replaced. The same risk exists for the 737 NG aircraft, according to the FAA.

The faulty components were produced by a subcontractor. The defects are not serious enough to cause the aircraft to crash, but they can cause damage to the fuselage during flight. Wing flaps are folded out of the wings to give the aircraft greater lift during takeoff and landing.

The FAA has not yet announced a date for when the Boeing 737 Max and NG will be allowed to fly in US airspace again. Sources recently said the FAA could approve the aircraft within a month.

In mid-May, Boeing announced that development of a software update for the 737 Max 8 is complete.

Two 737 Max 8 planes were involved in two plane crashes in a short period of time, killing a total of almost 350 people.
