The low-cost airline Ryanair has been rocked by several extensive strikes in 2018.
Now it seems that it will continue into the new year as cabin crew in Spain are calling a strike in January.
Thousands of travelers may be affected.
Ryanair staff in Spain are threatening a three-day strike, currently scheduled for January 8, 10 and 13, The Sun reports. According to unions USO and SITCPLA, the company is refusing to comply with Spanish law and provide employees with contracts in accordance with recommendations.
Several thousand travelers now risk being left without a flight - if the company does not change its mind within the time the staff has given management to avoid a strike.
”"We are sorry to provoke another strike and we have tried to announce ourselves as soon as possible, but it is necessary to get to the bottom of the problem so that in the future the company complies with the legislation for the sake of both employees and customers," the USO union said in a comment.
Several strikes in 2018
Ryanair employees from several countries went on strike repeatedly in 2018 due to low wages and poor conditions.
The most recent was on September 26th, when staff from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands refused to work for a day. 250 flights were cancelled and 30,000 passengers were affected, including many Swedes.
Unions called the strike a success, while Ryanair stressed that it had had minimal impact on air traffic.
