The queues at the Öresund Bridge were long on Saturday – which was the first day when all Swedes were allowed to travel to Denmark, reports Sveriges Radio P4 Malmö.

The queues were sometimes over five kilometers long and according to Henrik Döj, traffic controller on the Öresund Bridge, it is estimated that just over 14,000 cars had crossed the bridge by 6 p.m. in the evening. At the same time, these are significantly lower levels than on a normal summer day.

”"It's a far cry from the normal holiday traffic where we previously had 30,000 passengers in a day. Today I hardly think we'll reach over 20,000," Döj tells P4 Malmö.

The Danish government announced this week that it is opening up the country to all Swedes, with certain restrictions for those who do not live in Skåne, Halland and Blekinge.
