The Baltic states have closed their borders to most Russians. New rules came into effect at midnight, after which several Russian citizens were stopped and turned back.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania made the decisions a couple of weeks ago, citing security reasons due to the Ukraine war.
”"Russia is an unpredictable and aggressive state. Three-quarters of its citizens support the war. It is unacceptable that people who support the war can freely travel around the world, to Lithuania and the EU," says Lithuanian Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite.
At least eleven Russian citizens were stopped at the Lithuanian border during the night of Monday.
The restrictions also apply to Russians who have entry visas to the Schengen area. There are a few exceptions, for example if there are considered to be humanitarian reasons or if you have EU citizens in your family.
The rules also cannot be applied to people traveling from other Schengen countries.
