Low-cost airline Ryanair carried 70,000 passengers in May, according to the monthly traffic report. Last year's figure for the same month was 14.1 million.

Ryanair, one of the airlines hit hard by the travel restrictions introduced during the virus crisis, predicts that June traffic will also be "minimal", the report shows.

Despite operations still being essentially on hold, Ryanair's stock has climbed over 40 percent since mid-May, when the company announced that 40 percent of operations would resume on July 1.

However, it will take time for demand to catch up, according to the company. It has been estimated that 50-60 percent of the seats can be filled in July and August, according to previous communications from the company.
