Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary said the airline is ready to resume flights to Ukraine within two weeks - once it is deemed safe again. He made the remarks during a panel discussion at Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Europe on Wednesday.
Ryanair has hired around 60 Ukrainian pilots and 80 cabin crew, according to Michael O'Leary, who will be able to deploy them to quickly resume operations in Ukraine as soon as the security situation allows. The Ukrainian staff are currently stationed in Poland.
Ryanair's CEO says there are plans to create 30 routes and establish more bases in Ukraine within 12 months. He also sees the reconstruction of war-torn Ukraine as a major business opportunity for European companies, in which aviation will play a key role.
”The Russians will probably blow up roads and bridges during the retreat,” he says.
Before the Russian invasion, Ryanair was the second largest airline in the country and has its sights set on becoming the absolute largest.
