On November 1st, Ryanair will introduce new rules for hand luggage.
A small bag that fits under the seat is the only thing you are allowed to carry on board for free. Cabin bags must be checked in or brought on board for a fee.
From November 1st, all passengers flying with Ryanair will be forced to pay extra for cabin bags. The only hand luggage you are allowed to bring with you for free is a handbag, a small backpack or a laptop bag that fits under the seat in front of you.
If you want to bring a cabin bag on board, it can weigh a maximum of 10 kilos. Only passengers who purchase priority boarding can bring both a small bag and a cabin bag on board. The cost of the cabin bag is 60 kronor if you purchase it when paying for your trip.
If you do not want to purchase priority boarding but still want to bring a cabin bag of the right size, you must pay 80 kronor when booking your trip or 100 kronor if you add a bag after paying for your trip. If you bring a second bag all the way to the gate, you must pay an extra 250 kronor. If your cabin bag is too large, you may not bring it at all or possibly check it in if it fits, in which case you will pay 500 kronor.

5 tips when flying with Ryanair
Maximize the contents of your handbag
If you want to avoid paying for cabin luggage on board, you need to maximize the contents of your allowed handbag. Every centimeter of the allowed dimensions, 40x20x25 cm, should be utilized. Most things are now available in miniature format – everything from straighteners to microfiber travel towels. However, don't forget the liquid rules when buying travel-sized hygiene items – each individual container is usually only allowed to contain a maximum of 100 ml.
Add priority boarding
If you buy priority boarding for 60 SEK when booking Ryanair tickets online, you can board earlier than others and also bring your cabin bag on the plane. This way, you don't have to wait at the baggage claim once you get there.
Check in your cabin bag
If you want to travel with a cabin bag, but don't want to lug it around the airport, you can instead choose to check the bag in for SEK 80. However, you should keep in mind that the cabin bag must still meet Ryanair's weight and dimension limits (max. 10 kg, 55 x 40 x 20 cm) and that you must wait for the bag at the baggage claim at the arrival airport.
Get an officially approved Ryanair cabin bag
If you are worried that your old cabin bag won't fit, you can buy a so-called "officially Ryanair-guaranteed cabin bag". The bags are designed by the American luggage manufacturer Samsonite and are available for sale on Ryanair's website.
Share the baggage allowance
If you are traveling with a friend or partner and know that you will need to check in luggage – then you can share the luggage allowance. If you are traveling on the same booking and have purchased two bags with a maximum weight of 20 kg, one traveler can check in 25 kg and the other 15 kg. The important thing is that the bags do not exceed the total luggage allowance (40 kg in this case). Remember to always buy checked luggage online and not at the airport, this way you will save a lot of money.
