The airline Ryanair has asked the European Court of Justice to invalidate the aid Sweden has given to airlines, reports Bloomberg.

It was on March 19 that the Riksdag decided that during the year airlines would be ”given the opportunity to obtain credit guarantees worth a total of no more than SEK 5 billion.” The support could only be given to companies that have a Swedish aviation permit and that have their main operations or registered office in Sweden.

Ryanair, which is based in Ireland but has some operations in Sweden, believes this violates EU law. In a statement, the company writes, according to Bloomberg, that Sweden's support measures discriminate against airlines based outside the country, and that they ignore the important role that pan-European airlines play in binding the EU together.

The airline has also directed similar criticism at Danish and French support measures.
