Ryanair risks being hit by strikes this summer if it does not agree to the demands made by unions in four European countries.
The unions representing Ryanair's cabin crew in Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Italy have announced after a meeting in Madrid that they intend to announce a strike on June 30.
However, the strike may be called off if Ryanair chooses to meet the demands put forward by the unions.
These are essentially a repetition of previous requirements, i.e. employees must operate under the labour laws of the country they are in and not Irish labour laws where Ryanair is based.
They also want to see Ryanair recognize unions for pilots and cabin crew and negotiate with representatives chosen by the unions and not the company.
Ryanair has so far only recognized two pilot unions, the British Balpa and the Italian Anpac.
The unions said they also want to see contract employees work under the same working conditions as regular employees.
”If Ryanair refuses to meet its demands, the unions will take all necessary measures for a European mobilization by the summer, including the declaration of a strike,” said the Spanish union USO.
