Safety issues with accident plane were known

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing says that technicians had found a problem with the accident-stricken 737 Max 8 model as early as 2017. The model has been involved in two fatal accidents in a short period of time that have cost a total of 346 lives.

According to Boeing, the problem became known to management after a plane of the type crashed in Indonesia in October 2018. However, it was only after a similar accident in Ethiopia in March this year that the model in question began to be taken out of service.

According to the aircraft manufacturer, it is a warning system that is only activated if additional equipment is installed.

Neither Lion Air in Indonesia nor Ethiopian Airlines in Ethiopia had purchased the supplementary equipment and this may be an explanation for the accidents.
