SAS is investing in reducing the weight of its aircraft for the sake of the environment. That's why the airline's duty-free sales will end in the fall. "These are quite heavy carts.".
Reduced emissions by 25 percent by 2030, that is SAS's goal. One step on the way is to remove duty-free sales on aircraft starting this fall.
– It involves quite heavy trolleys and all the products that are loaded on board, says Freja Annamatz, press manager for SAS Sweden.
As sales disappear, the loaded weight on the aircraft decreases, which saves fuel and reduces emissions.
– Our goal is to reduce emissions by 25 percent, this is part of that. The big part is about replacing the aircraft with more modern ones and introducing biofuels, but every small action is important, says Freja Annamatz.
SAS will soon introduce more modern ways to shop in connection with travel, but exactly what this will look like is unclear.
– This has long been a valued sale, but it is no longer of interest to the same extent. We are reviewing how we can be more relevant to our customers, and more sustainable. But how we develop this we will have to come back to.
– It is important for us that our customers know that we are doing everything we can to reduce emissions to create a more sustainable flight, says Freja Annamatz.
