SAS is expanding its customer offering to meet the growing demand for leisure travel and is launching a new direct route between Copenhagen and Bangkok. The first flight takes place today, October 30, almost 75 years after SAS first flew between Copenhagen and Bangkok.
The route will operate during the winter season 2023/2024 and both routes on the route will be night flights. This allows for smooth connections to and from Scandinavia but also other European destinations via Copenhagen Airport. As part of the winter program, SAS will also continue with three weekly routes to Tokyo Haneda (HND) and Shanghai (PVG).
SAS made its first flight between Copenhagen and Bangkok back in 1949. At that time, the journey took ”only” 36 hours and on the way to Thailand, they stopped in Zurich, Rome, Damascus, Karachi and Calcutta. SAS flew between Copenhagen and Bangkok until 2013 and today, on October 30, 2023, the flight connection will be re-established. The flight will take about 10 hours and 30 minutes, without any stopovers.
”"Thailand and the Scandinavian countries have a long history of good cooperation and we are pleased to be able to offer a direct route to Bangkok again after nine years. The route will be a good option for both business and leisure travelers and offer smooth connections to the rest of Thailand and Asia. Thailand is a favorite destination for many passengers during the winter season and many Scandinavians see Thailand as their second home," says SAS Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Verhagen.”
