SAS, under the leadership of chairman Carsten Dilling, has led the effort to find a successor to the outgoing Rickard Gustafson. Three candidates have now emerged, but none of them are Scandinavian, according to sources from Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv.

It will probably be a German, Spaniard or Dutchman who takes over the mantle after Rickard Gustafson, the newspaper writes. SAS is in the final stages of finding a successor, according to the sources.

The three candidates are former British Airways CEO Alex Cruz, Alexis von Hoensbroech, who is currently CEO of Austrian Airlines, and South American Avianca CEO Anko van der Werff.

SAS has declined to comment on the information.

Dagens Næringsliv's sources state that an announcement on the matter may be made at the beginning of the week.
