The airline SAS reports a smaller loss during the third quarter, May to July, compared to what the company made during the same period last year.

The airline SAS's pre-tax profit came in at minus 1,358 million kronor, compared to minus 2,071 million kronor in the same period last year. Revenue rose to 3,982 million kronor, compared to 2,507 million kronor in the same quarter last year.

According to SAS, demand continued to increase gradually during the summer season and compared to the second quarter, the company increased its capacity by 94 percent. The number of passengers increased by 144 percent compared to the last quarter and the cabin factor reached 52 percent, which is an increase of almost 23 percentage points compared to the previous quarter.

In total, SAS flew just over 2 million passengers during the third quarter.

”"We noted encouraging signs during the summer season of gradually increasing demand. Vaccination rates are also increasing, but major challenges remain ahead as the number of new cases of the delta variant increases and delays the recovery," notes SAS's newly appointed CEO Anko van der Werff.

SAS further states that the company expects more leisure travelers and even tougher competition.

”In addition, customers are booking their tickets closer to their departure date, which means that the ability to flexibly scale up and down will be a crucial success factor for the airline industry going forward,” says Anko van der Werff.Share on LinkedInShare on Twitter
