Several airlines are checking the engines on some Boeing 737 planes after a fatal accident in the United States.

On Tuesday, a Southwest Airlines plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia after one of its engines failed. A piece of the broken engine reportedly shattered one of the plane's windows. One passenger died in the accident.

Several airlines are now starting to check the Boeing 737s that have the same type of engine as the accident plane, for example Korean Air Lines and Japan Airlines, reports the Reuters news agency.

SAS will also check the engines on 66 Boeing 737 aircraft.

”"Manufacturer directives regarding extra checks have been issued," says Gunilla Danström at SAS's press office to Aftonbladet.

Norwegian will inspect seven Boeing 737 aircraft.
