SAS has canceled 1,700 departures in September and October, reports DN with reference to the industry website Check-in. The cuts are an effect of this summer's pilot strike, according to the company.
The pressured airline SAS is struggling with continued staffing problems and is forced to cancel additional flights this fall. In total, this involves approximately 1,200 scheduled departures in September and 500 in October.
”"We are not seeing any reduced demand - quite the opposite. But in terms of personnel, the strike has affected our staffing in the coming months, as there is a holiday backlog. There are also delayed aircraft deliveries to SAS Link, which is affecting our capacity," says Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji, press manager at SAS Denmark, to the Danish industry site Check-in, which first wrote about the matter.
SAS is not the only airline to have canceled flights this fall. Lufthansa and KLM have also cut traffic, citing capacity problems.
In May, SAS announced that the company would cancel 4,000 flights during the summer months. Then came the pilot strike, which further affected operations.
