SAS has today received the first delivery of the Airbus A350, which is described as the world's most modern and most fuel-efficient long-haul aircraft.

The order for eight A350 aircraft is part of a major order to modernize SAS's fleet. The aircraft, named Ingegerd Viking, will operate on seven routes in its first year, including Chicago, Beijing, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong and San Francisco.

The plane has three classes: Business, SAS Plus and SAS Go. The beds in Business are at least 196 centimeters long, according to the airline. For business travelers there is also a bar. Travelers in SAS Plus and SAS Go can instead shop in a snack shop that is intended to entice passengers to take a walk.

Cabin crew can enjoy eight spacious beds for cabin crew and pilots, and a new kitchen design with larger and better work surfaces.

”The A350 is a milestone in our extensive fleet renewal, which will consist of the market’s most advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft. With this aircraft, we will reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by up to 30 percent. In addition, external noise will be reduced by 40 percent. Together with the new look of our planes, the A350 is a symbol of a more sustainable and competitive future for SAS,” says Rickard Gustafson, CEO, SAS.

As part of the modernization of its short- and long-haul fleet, SAS will receive a total of 96 new Airbus aircraft: A320neo (80), Airbus A330 Enhanced (5), Airbus A350 (8) and Airbus A321LR (3) before the end of 2023.
