An SAS aircraft from Arlanda to Miami has had to turn around after severe turbulence over Greenland.

– We have decided to return and fly back to home base. It is routine when an aircraft is exposed to such severe turbulence, says Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji at SAS.

The aircraft is carrying 254 passengers. It will land at Kastrup at 11:15 p.m., according to SAS.

– We need to examine the plane at one of our own bases. That's why we're going back. It wouldn't have been possible to do it in Miami, says Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji. 

The plane is currently near Iceland.

According to SAS, a team will meet the passengers at Kastrup. They are booked into a hotel in Copenhagen tonight.

– Then they can hopefully go to Miami tomorrow morning, says Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji.
