Scandic is taking over a newly built mountain property in Sälen with 120 rooms, 16 apartments, and conference facilities. The property is in an attractive location and will offer guests ski-in, ski-out and a wellness area with a sauna, gym, and pool. The hotel is expected to open during the 2027/2028 season.
Scandic has signed a long-term lease agreement with property owner Lima Besparingsskog to establish itself in one of Scandinavia's largest ski resorts – Sälen. The hotel is strategically located between Tandådalen and Hundfjället, with proximity to both family-friendly children's slopes and steeper descents during winter. The past decade has also seen growing interest in the snow-free season, driven by the increasing popularity of activities such as hiking and cycling.
– We are incredibly pleased to welcome our guests to our first Scandic hotel in the Swedish mountains. Our growth strategy is clear: we want to strengthen our position in the Nordics by expanding in new, attractive locations. Sälen is an established and sought-after destination with high demand from Swedish, Nordic, and international visitors alike, which we want to capitalise on. We look forward to offering our guests an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Swedish mountains, says Jens Mathiesen, President and CEO of Scandic Hotels Group.
The hotel will be built in classic mountain style with a wooden facade and balconies facing the mountain landscape. Ahead of the hotel's opening, a new ski lift will be established to easily take guests from the hotel to the ski system. On the entrance level, you are greeted by generous windows that let in the light and invite you into a welcoming lobby, restaurant and bar. Several fireplaces here also create a warm and cosy atmosphere. For those who wish to relax, a wellness area with a pool awaits, stretching from indoors to outdoors. Furthermore, a fully equipped gym and several different types of saunas are offered.
– Scandic has previously successfully established mountain hotels in both Norway and Finland. Therefore, it is a fantastic opportunity to now open an entirely new hotel in the Swedish mountains. We are continuing our expansion journey and look forward to doing so in collaboration with Lima Besparingsskog, says Jesper Engman, Senior Vice President Portfolio Development.
– We are very proud to have the opportunity to collaborate with Scandic on this unique hotel project, which we have developed together with the real estate advisor CBRE Sweden. This initiative will create more jobs and strengthen Sälenfjällen as a popular year-round tourist destination, says Fredrik Eriksson, manager at Lima Besparingsskog.
