Scania's new double-decker for liquid biogas will be presented for the first time at the Persontrafik trade fair in Gothenburg from 5 to 7 November. Scania Beulas Jewel is the first double-decker for express bus and long-distance transport with a drivetrain for liquid biogas to be built outside Asia, making it an important addition to fossil-free bus transport.
– The bus is an excellent and sustainable alternative for express bus and long-distance traffic with a well-developed tank infrastructure and with high CO2 reduction when the bus is powered by biogas or Swedish vehicle gas, says Rutger Hörndahl, Key Account Manager, Scania Sverige Bus.
The 13.9-meter-long and four-meter-high three-axle bus has a total of 73 passenger seats and a guide seat, divided into 14 seats on the lower deck and 59 on the upper deck. It is also exclusively furnished with a glass roof. The drivetrain is Scania's 13-liter gas engine with 410 horsepower and a torque of 2000 Nm. With a gas tank of just over 670 liters, located under the middle door, the bus has a range of up to 700 kilometers. Power, torque and range correspond to a diesel-powered bus, while the noise level and operating costs are reduced.
The bus is launched shortly after the European Commission approved Sweden's tax exemption for biogas after the tax was reintroduced in March 2023. The fuel thus becomes an attractive fossil-free alternative for bus operators, especially for long-distance traffic. Just over three quarters of the liquefied vehicle gas sold in Sweden is biogas.
The new gas-powered Scania Beulas Jewel completes Scania’s product portfolio of gas-powered coaches, which also includes the Scania Irizar i6S Effcient. Scania also manufactures the Scania Touring coach with a liquid gas drivetrain, which was recently awarded the Sustainable Bus Award 2025 at the FIAA International Bus and Coach Fair in Madrid, Europe’s second largest bus and coach fair.
