Due to the delayed environmental permit for the expansion of the runway at Skellefteå Airport, TUI announces today that they will have to cancel the planned departures to Thailand in January 2019.

Departures would be carried out with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft type, which is a larger aircraft model than what is currently capable of flying from Skellefteå to Thailand on the current runway. This means that until the runway has been expanded, the Dreamliner cannot operate at Skellefteå Airport.

– We are sorry that these flights have been cancelled and that it has affected our passengers, but we are convinced that flights will return when we have extended the runway, says Robert Lindberg, CEO of Skellefteå Airport.

During the day, TUI has been in contact with customers who have booked trips on the affected departures, including offers of departures to Thailand from Luleå Airport.

Delays in the expansion of the runway only affect departures to Thailand, other departures to other charter destinations from Skellefteå Airport will proceed as planned.
