The company Segway will stop manufacturing the two-wheeled electric vehicles that bear the company's name and have become synonymous with it for many, reports the AP news agency.
The product has become popular as a means of transportation for tourists and police in several major cities, but has never really caught on with the general public. It only accounted for 1.5 percent of the company's sales last year.
“This was not an easy decision to make, but while the ongoing global pandemic has impacted sales, it was not a determining factor in the decision,” Segway CEO Judy Cai said in a statement.
Production ends on July 15, and the Segway's journey thus comes to an end, barely two decades after the first units rolled out in the United States.
