A new survey from travel agency Ticket shows that most Swedes are happy to travel alone. The freedom to decide on the content of the trip is appealing, with big cities and sun and beach trips being the most popular choices.

Traveling alone is appealing to many. A new survey from travel agency Ticket shows that seven out of ten Swedes (71 percent) would consider traveling on their own. Interest is slightly higher among people aged 30–49, where 77 percent would consider some form of solo travel.

Among those who like to travel alone, city trips are at the top, followed by sun and beach trips. Many are attracted by the opportunity to discover a place at their own pace – whether it's strolling through new neighborhoods, relaxing on the beach or enjoying the freedom to plan their vacation completely on their own terms.

“Traveling alone is often about freedom and flexibility. More people want to be able to travel on their own terms, without having to adapt to other people's schedules or interests,” says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and communications manager at Ticket.

However, interest differs slightly between the genders. Both sun and beach trips and city trips are widely popular, but women primarily prioritize trips to the sun while men choose big cities. Men also show a greater interest in adventure travel than women.

The survey is based on a nationally representative sample of the Swedish population aged 18–79 and was conducted by Kantar Sifo on behalf of Ticket.
