The most populous Chinese city, Shanghai, is tightening entry rules on Thursday, November 24. Reuters reports this, a few hours after Beijing announced that the capital would expand testing requirements on November 24. In Beijing, parks, malls and museums have also been closed.

Several other cities have resumed mass testing as the spread of the infection has increased, and with it, concerns about the Chinese economy. 

The spread of the infection is feared to reduce the likelihood that the country will abandon the zero-tolerance policy that has led to lockdowns and weighed heavily on growth, something that has contributed to relief in financial markets in recent weeks.

In Shanghai, people who have been in the city for less than five days will not be allowed to enter public places.

On Monday, 28,000 new cases were reported in China, which is close to the levels from a previous outbreak period in April.
