”"This is a higher rate of increase than in November and a strong development. The positive end of 2025 resulted in an increase in the number of hotel rooms sold by a total of 4 percent for the full year compared to 2024," writes the industry organization Visita in a press release.

The number of hotel rooms sold increased in major cities in December 2025 by 7 percent and in the rest of Sweden by 8 percent compared to December last year, according to preliminary figures from Benchmarking Alliance.

In Stockholm and Gothenburg, the increases were 10 and just under 7 percent respectively, while demand decreased by 5 percent in Malmö. The decrease in Malmö is said to be due to high occupancy during the comparison period last year, when the World Floorball Championships were held in the city. Overall, accommodation revenues increased by 9 percent nationally in December.

”"Both the mood and the booking situation look positive for 2026. A consumer survey recently conducted by Infostat indicates continued increased travel desire, especially among leisure travelers, but business travel also appears to be increasing," says Thomas Jakobsson, Chief Economist at Visita, in a comment.
