The news that Norway is easing the quarantine requirement for Norwegians traveling to Värmland has brought joy on both sides of the border. Several Norwegians eager to shop jumped in the car and headed east. But on the way back to the border, a small mistake was discovered.
Residents of Värmland can now travel to Norway without having to quarantine, Norwegian authorities announced on Friday afternoon. The same applies to Norwegians who travel to Värmland and then return – something that several people in our western neighbor quickly picked up on.
”Some seem to have jumped into the car to be able to shop in Sweden,” says Kersti Bråten, section manager at Norwegian Customs in Kongsvinger.
But when the Norwegians finished shopping, they received grim news on the way back.
”"Some people probably missed that the new border rules apply from midnight to Saturday and thought they applied from 2 p.m. when the announcement came," says Kersti Bråten.
So for the Norwegians who have been too hot on the porridge, a ten-day quarantine is now in effect at home in Norway.
What do you think it will be like at the border when the quarantine requirement is officially lifted?
”"It's difficult to predict, some Norwegians are probably still cautious about all forms of travel activity. But we have to be as prepared as possible," says Kersti Bråten.
