Hamburg Airport in Germany has suffered a major power outage and was forced to close completely.

The power outage is due to a short circuit and the entire airport has been evacuated, a spokesperson for the airport said.

The evacuation began at 10 a.m. and planes are neither landing nor taking off from there.

The airport's website only states that it is closed due to a power failure. Passengers are asked to contact their airlines for more information.

Hamburg Airport is Germany's fifth largest with over 17 million passengers annually.
