The pandemic has caused many car rental companies to scale back their operations and therefore have historically small car fleets.

Now that demand has increased again as the pandemic has eased, it is not possible to purchase new cars in sufficient quantities due to component shortages among car manufacturers.

”"Car dealers have no idea when the cars might show up and it's very difficult to plan a business based on that," says car rental company Niklas Edlund, who believes the problems could persist into next year as well.
