More and more people are choosing to travel by train in northern Sweden during their holidays. Bookings for the Inlandsbanan have increased by ten percent this year.
–I think it's because we want to make a smaller climate footprint, says Elena Jönsson, manager of Destination Inlandsbanan.
The inland railway between Kristinehamn and Gällivare has been running since the late 1930s. Now interest is increasing explosively.
Bookings have increased by ten percent and twice as many people are calling and interested in riding Inlandsbanan, according to the company itself. This is compared to June last year.
”Right timing”
Bookings have also increased at SJ. For the period June-August, bookings have increased by 32 percent compared to the same period last year. Norrtåg has also entered the field. Earlier this year, they launched their own train holiday card.
– We want to utilize the trains we have as much as possible over the summer. Then there is a general trend around sustainable travel that we want to join, says Christer Berglund at Norrtåg.
