The coronavirus crisis is hitting the aviation industry hard, and airlines are also demanding fewer large planes. Singapore Airlines is looking for new ways to make money and has therefore chosen to convert one of the company's giant Airbus A380 aircraft into a temporary restaurant.

Visitors can choose which cabin class they want to sit in and once there, they can enjoy meals with two alcoholic drinks and free access to other refreshments, Singapore Airlines says. A tour of the plane is available before the meal and customers will also be able to watch screens with in-flight entertainment while they eat.

The aircraft in question is parked at Changi Airport in Singapore, but according to plans, opening hours will be strictly limited – it will be open on October 24th and 25th. 

In addition to the pop-up restaurant, Singapore Airlines is also working on other potential revenue streams. Among other things, it offers a service where customers can receive a home visit from the airline's chef and be served airline food at home. In addition, tours of Singapore Airlines' training facilities will begin in November. However, the company states that for environmental reasons it has chosen not to also start short sightseeing flights above the airport, as several other airlines in the region have done.
