SJ has signed an agreement with train manufacturer Alstom to purchase 25 new high-speed trains of the Zefiro Express model. The new trains will be the fastest trains ever on Swedish railways, with a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour, SJ writes in a press release.

The agreement includes 25 new high-speed trains and an option for up to 15 additional trains. The deal is worth approximately seven billion kronor. The trains will be used for long-distance train traffic between major cities in Sweden but also for cross-border traffic to Denmark and Norway.

SJ made a decision to award the contract to Alstom on 20 December 2021 after a completed procurement. The agreement between the parties was signed on 5 April 2022. The first train is expected to enter service in 2026.
