SJ is canceling several departures between Stockholm and Gothenburg during January and February, as SR Ekot was first to report. On Tuesday, every third departure, 9 out of 27, is canceled.

The reason is the recent large amounts of snow and severe cold, which means that more trains need to be de-iced at the same time, which creates queues in the workshops.

”"A vehicle maintenance that takes one day in the summer can take as long as three days in the winter due to queues in the depot," SJ writes on its website.

Should the winter last longer, there is a risk that departures will need to be cancelled for an even longer period.

”"It will gradually get better going forward, but the weather and the amount of snow will be decisive for how quickly it goes," says Arvid Fredman, Director of Vehicles at SJ, in a press release.

The traffic reductions also affect the Stockholm-Malmö, Stockholm-Umeå, Stockholm-Uppsala and Linköping-Stockholm-Gävle routes. Passengers whose journeys are affected will be informed by SJ.
