Two departures per hour in both directions take thousands of travelers between the cities every day. But not for long, as SJ is now scrapping the popular "Uppsala commuter train", it is reported. DN.

SJ has long operated traffic between Stockholm and Uppsala with its regional trains. They call it the ”Uppsala commuter train” but it is not the same as SL's commuter train which also operates on the same route.

The reason is mainly tougher competition from Mälartåg. According to SJ's CEO Monica Lingegård, SJ is losing 50 million kronor a year maintaining the traffic. She believes that it would be irresponsible to allow the traffic to continue.

– We can't make it happen. And letting it cost so much money is not possible. Then it will be my responsibility to shut this down, she tells DN
