SJ has been named Sweden's greenest brand in the Transport category for the fifteenth year in a row. Over 1,000 Swedes voted in the survey and SJ is once again being praised for its cutting-edge environmental and sustainability work. This is shown in this year's report Sweden's Greenest Brand, which has been measured by the consulting firm Differ since 2008.

– It feels absolutely fantastic that our sustainability work is once again being recognized. This is a result of all our employees' hard work in offering climate-smart and sustainable travel to all our customers, says Claes Lindholtz, Communications & Sustainability Director at SJ.

Continuing to drive the development of climate-smart travel has been a dominant focus for SJ in recent years. In 2022, SJ also made the train bistro significantly more sustainable.

An ongoing project is to reduce the use of plastic in the bistro, and for example, the breakfast box was reduced in plastic. During the year, the entire breakfast box also became vegetarian with eggs from free-range chickens and KRAV and fair trade-labeled coffee.

Since April 2022, the company Allwin has been collecting the food left over from the trains in Stockholm. The food, which corresponds to 2,400 meals a month, is then distributed to those in need, including under the auspices of the Church of Sweden. It has previously been difficult to find an actor who can take care of leftover food from the trains because the cold chain cannot be broken for many of the goods. Allwin has invested in refrigerated trucks and since April they have been taking care of 1,000 kg of food a month from SJ, instead of it being discarded.

– The work of reducing our climate footprint permeates the entire SJ. Today, the vast majority of people in Sweden are aware of the superior climate benefits of train travel. This means that it is important for us to work with sustainability in new areas, says Claes Lindholtz.

Sweden's Greenest Brand has been conducted since 2008 by the consulting firm Differ and The aim of the survey is to follow Swedish consumers' views on the environment and sustainability work. The survey was answered by a random sample of people aged 15–75 who are nationally representative of the Swedish people. The data collection was carried out in December 2022.
