The Swedish train company SJ is investing in 25 new high-speed trains that will be used for long-distance traffic between major cities in Sweden but also for traffic to Denmark and Norway. The new high-speed trains have a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
”"The fact that we are going from 200 to 250 kilometers per hour is historic," says SJ's Director of Vehicles Arvid Fredman.
Bombardier Transportation Sweden AB (part of the Alstrom Group) has won the tender.
The investment is part of a 12 billion kronor investment in the purchase of new trains and the refurbishment of old trains. The new trains will cost around 7 billion kronor, "one of the largest train deals in SJ's history," the company writes in a press release.
